St Philips Nursery 5: exploring the concept of space

Written by artist Kirsty Claxton

Find a simple question to explore a complex question.......

  • What is space?
  • How much space do I need?
  • What is breathing?

Reflecting on the previous session, the behaviours and enquiries that are emerging
are: mapping out territory, enclosures, identity, community, boundaries

We track the children enquiry:
Connecting
Enclosing
Making spaces
Taking space
Asserting a sense of belonging

How do they occupy
Investigate
Make sense of their world
Make sense of themselves in the space

They use materials to connect with each other
To co-exist in their world
Constructing their own space, boundaries
Creating social spaces?

Who are the gate keepers?
Who do they allow to be the gate keepers?

What does the world like from up there?
What does it look like from down here?

What is air?
What is clean air?

Can the policy makers experience the world from a 3 year old's perspective?
