St Philips Marsh Nursery | My Place planning meeting
Simon (headteacher), Mandy (lead teacher), Kirsty (artist) and Penny (artist mentor) met to plan the project.
Mandy has shared the project with all staff/ children/ families
Simon and Mandy shared aspirations for project, why they wanted to be involved:
Focus: sense of place/environment/ well being/community
Context: geography/history, community, redevelopment/future
Educational context: less resources, finding different ways of doing things
Themes: Belonging, home, safety, stability, kindness, calm, security, whilst stimulating and
creative, celebrating diversity
Sensory room: with living green wall – yoga/meditation/calm space, staff skills share
How do we protect and value My Place? Celebration of social/political issues
How can we engage children and families in space inside/outside?
Occupation (KC): off the beaten track’, dislocation, hope, reclaimed land
Challenges: problematic to walk from the Centre – safety/safeguarding, traffic/juggernauts,
no pavements/access, pollution
Potential to take over the space opposite – build pop-up housing? Recreate a pop-up space
in the playground?
Timeframe: May, scoping possibilities alongside children and staff; (June KC in LA) July
3days x2 weeks residency
First session as ‘getting to know you’, calm/quiet/yoga
Simon shared ‘Yesterday’s Island’ and large photos of school community over 83 years
Bringing outside inside ... playground as stage set ‘The Marshmakers’ Ref Ken Loach (PH)
